Before we get to the nitty-gritty of offerings, if you choose to work with me I do require a sample edit of 1,500 words for dev and line edits to ensure that your writing style and my editing process align. 

Developmental Editing

This can be known as structural editing, substantive editing, or content editing. Whatever you want to call it, this focuses on the overall structure, content and flow of a manuscript. 

I’m here to go through the book to pick out any wider issues or places you can amp up your story on the below points:

The purpose of a dev edit is to have a professional set of eyes on your document that will help with the big picture concerns. This edit will always retain the author’s voice throughout the book. At the end of the day you’ve written it, so you get the final say on what you use or don’t use.

Line Editing

Line editing is often used interchangeably with the term copyediting. In this case, it is the middle man between developmental editing and copyediting.

I’ll go through your manuscript line-by-line to analyze your sentence structure and ensure the flow and meaning of your sentences comes through. I’ll also look at the following:

  • Cliché and awkward metaphors
  • Effectiveness of sentence-level narration

Book Map

Think of the book map as what’s made it onto the page of your manuscript. It’s your one-stop shop destination for worldbuilding, character development and pacing.

MANUSCRIPT EVALUATION

A manuscript evaluation is a high-level analysis of your book but with much less detail than a full developmental edit. It’s a service that will assess the strengths and weaknesses of a manuscript and provide feedback from an objective point of view.

It’s generally used if you want someone to look at the overarching structure, story and mechanics but do not require a full script markup. Because of the nature of this service, the document will get minimal marginal comments that will tie in with the points made in the editorial letter.

PARTIAL MANUSCRIPT EVALUATION

Similar to the full manuscript evaluation, this service will go through the first 5,000 or 10,000 words of your script to assess the beginning of your book and highlight strengths and areas for improvement.

COACHING

Money Stuff

  1. I will require a signed contract and a 50% deposit on the estimated word count
  2. Payments can be made through GoCardless or bank transfer 
  3. Payment plans available through request

Please note all invoices are billed in GBP at a rate fixed for 2024 of 0.81 GBP to 1 USD based on 2023 averages.
